Steve Abrams' started the Society of Mental Awareness (SOMA) in 1967, which was incorporated in 1969, with council members including Dr Francis Crick, Francis Huxley, RD Laing, Rev Ken Leech and others It was responsible for the famous Times newspaper letter calling for the legalization of cannabis and influencing the Wootton Report, among other things. This ephemera includes:

  • A 1969 organization publication including its intentions, staff, council, proposed information and research programme, and details on services. Stapled, in excellent condition. 10pp
  • Hashish Fudge: Soma and the Wootton Report (1993) by Steve Abrams. A typed and loose-bound draft of Abrams' account of the organisation and relationship with the Wootton Report. Signed with inscription by the author. 14000 words. Excellent condition.
