2 Vols. Hardback, rebound cloth with marbled boards | Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, Green & Longman: London | Boards in Very Good Plus condition, early ink signature and date on both, some small pencil annotations, age tanning and slight foxing (please see photos).

Published as Volume 5: Parts 1 & 2 of The English Flora of Sir James Edward Smith (Volumes 1-4 published while Smith was alive, whereas these two parts were posthumous). A notable collection that adopted the new Linnean system of categorization. Together, they simultaneously formed Volume 2 of Dr Hooker's British Flora. The labels on the new binding are slightly confused, stating Volume 1 and 2, rather than Parts 1 & 2.

Part 1, by Dr William Hooker, deals with mosses, lichens, algae and alike; Part 2, by Rev MJ Berkeley, deals with fungi. Interesting regarding the development of nomenclature for the Liberty Cap - Here, likely for the first time in Britain, put under the subgenus Psilocybe, but as Agarcis callosus, & Sowerby's A. semiglobatus. There is also a brief note on the London 'poisoning' case of 1799.
